Construction Permit

Automatic Fire-Extinguishing Systems (Section 105.6.1)  

A construction permit is required for the installation or modification to an automatic fire-extinguishing system. This includes automatic sprinkler systems, clean agent systems, dry- and wet-chemical suppression systems.  See the Permit Section of the website for fees.

Compressed Gases (Section 105.6.2) 

 Where the compressed gases in use or storage exceed the amounts listed in Table 105.5.9, a construction permit is required to install, repair damage to, abandon, remove, place temporarily out of service, or close or substantially modify a compressed gas system.

Cryogenic Fluids (Section 105.6.3) 

A construction permit is required for installation of or alteration to outdoor stationary cryogenic fluid storage systems where the system capacity exceeds the amounts listed in Table 105.5.11.

Electronic Access Control Systems (Section 105.6.25)  

A construction permit is required for the installation or modification to an electronic access control system. Typical components include magnetic locks, electronic door strikes, access card readers, etc.

Emergency Responder Communication Coverage System (Section 105.6.4)

 A construction permit is required for installation of or modification to in-building, two-way emergency responder communication coverage systems and related equipment.

Energy Storage Systems (Section 105.6.5)

A construction permit is required to install energy storage systems regulated by Section 1207.

Fire Alarm and Detection Systems and Related Equipment

A construction permit is required for installation of or modification to fire alarm and detection systems and related equipment.  Maintenance performed in accordance with this code is not considered to be a modification and does not require a construction permit.

Fire Pumps and Related Equipment (Section 105.6.7)

A construction permit is required for the installation or modification to fire pumps and related fuel tanks, jockey pumps, controllers and generators.  The permit fee is $100.00 per main fire pump.

Flammable and Combustible Liquids (Section 105.6.8)

A construction permit is required to install, repair, or modify a pipeline for transportation of flammable or combustible liquid, to install, construct or alter tank vehicles, equipment, tanks, plants, terminals, wells, fuel dispensing stations, refineries, distilleries, and similar facilities, and to install, alter, remove, abandon, or otherwise dispose of a flammable or combustible liquid tank.  Installation or removal of tanks is $75.00 per tank.   Installation or removal of a fuel dispenser is $25.00 per dispenser.

Fuel Cell Power Systems (Section 105.6.8)

A construction permit is required to install stationary fuel cell power systems.  Fuel cell power systems convert the chemical energy of a fuel and oxidant to electric energy by an electromechanical process.

Gas Detection Systems (Section 105.6.10)

A construction permit is required for the installation of or modification to gas detection systems.

Gates and Barricades Across Fire Apparatus Access Roads (Section 105.6.11)

Hazardous Materials (Section 105.6.12) 

A construction permit is required to install, repair damage to, abandon, remove, place temporarily out of service, or close or substantially modify a storage facility or other area regulated by Chapter 50 where the hazardous materials in use or storage exceed the amounts listed in Table 105.5.22.  See Operational Permit Guidelines for Table 105.5.22.

High-Piled Combustible Storage (Section 105.6.13)

A construction permit is required for the installation of or modification to a structure with more than 500 square feet, including aisles, of high-piled combustible storage.

A construction permit is required for the installation of industrial ovens regulated by Chapter 30.

A construction permit is required for installation of or modification to an LP-gas system.

Motor Vehicle Repair Rooms and Booths (Section 105.6.16)

A construction permit is required to install or modify a motor vehicle repair room or booth.  These spaces are required where repair garage activities for the conversion or repair of vehicles that use CNG, LNG, hydrogen, or other lighter-than-air motor fuels.  Apply Now  Opens in new window

 

Plant Extraction Systems (Section105.6.17)

A construction permit is required for installation of or modification to plant extraction systems.

Private Fire Hydrants (Section 105.6.18)

A construction permit is required for the installation or modification of private fire hydrants.

Smoke Control or Smoke Exhaust Systems (Section 105.6.19)

A construction permit is required for installation of or alteration to smoke control or smoke exhaust systems.  The permit fee for these systems is $50.00.

Solar Photovoltaic Power Systems (Section 105.6.20)

A construction permit is required to install or modify solar photovoltaic power systems.

Special Event Structure (Section 105.6.21)

A single construction permit is required to erect and take down a temporary special event structure.  A temporary special event structure is any temporary, ground-supported structure, platform, stage, stage scaffolding or rigging, canopy, tower supporting audio or visual effects equipment or similar structures not regulated within the scope of the International Building Code.

Spraying or Dipping (Section 105.6.22)

A construction permit is required to install or modify a spray room, dip tank or booth.

Standpipe Systems (Section 105.6.23)

A construction permit is required for the installation, modification, or removal from service of a standpipe system.  A permit fee of $75.00 is required.

Temporary Membrane Structures and Tents (Section 105.6.24) 

A construction permit is required to erect an air-supported temporary membrane structure, a temporary stage canopy, or a tent having an area in excess of 400 square feet.
